Ferrari Driver Academy member Mick Schumacher has rejected former Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone’s advice after the English business magnate urged the Haas driver to“forget Formula 1” and instead focus on “other categories” where he could get more chances to drive a car that would allow him to fight for race wins.
In a recent interview for German-language free-to-air television channel RTL, 92-year-old Bernie Ecclestone said that he believes the 23-year-old son of Scuderia Ferrari and Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher will not get a contract extension from Haas for the 2023 Formula 1 championship.
The American side was expected to provide details regarding its line-up and the future of Mick Schumacher this weekend at Interlagos, which hosts the Brazilian Grand Prix. However, Haas team principal Gunther Steiner confirmed yesterday that no announcement is expected in Sao Paulo:
“We hope to be able to announce our plans next week before the weekend in Abu Dhabi,” Gunther Steiner explained – “That’s my goal, but I’m not promising it.” – he added.

When asked about his hopes and expectations on this matter, Ferrari junior Mick Schumacher said in Brazil: “My plan is to keep going.”
Regarding the advice recently received from Bernie Ecclestone, the young German responded in an interview for the Bild newspaper: “It’s hard to forget Formula 1. I love it too much, so I won’t do that. Everyone always has an opinion on everything, but I care about the opinions of the people I care about.” – he added.
When asked about who those people are, the Ferrari Driver Academy member replied: “Of course my family. And a few other people from Formula 1 – Sebastian Vettel, for example. Those are the opinions that matter to me.” – Mick Schumacher concluded.
