According to German news source AutoBild, Mick Schumacher will participate in the Young Driver Tests in Bahrain for Alfa Romeo, giving the German his first taste of what an F1 car feels like to drive.
Rookies with a maximum of two Grands Prix of F1 experience are allowed to participate in the Young Driver Tests, which take place on April 10th and 11th.
Schumacher, son of seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher, will make his debut in Formula 2 this season after winning the Formula 3 title in 2018 in convincing fashion. That means he has sufficient super licence points to take place in an F1 car.
And he’ll be doing that in the test, where he’ll suit up for Alfa Romeo Racing. Schumacher was already signed to the Ferrari Driver Academy, and with Alfa having a close working relationship with Ferrari, it isn’t surprising Schumacher will drive in the C38.
The Young Driver Tests are mainly made to let teams’ biggest talents get mileage in a current F1 car. In 2017, for example, Lando Norris, George Russell and Pierre Gasly all took part in Hungary.
