The family running the official Twitter account of seven-time Formula 1 world champion and Scuderia Ferrari legend Michael Schumacher has sent Jean Todt a touching tribute with the former Ferrari boss standing down from the most powerful job in world motorsport. Jean Todt was replaced by fourteen-time Middle East rally champion Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who was confiremd as the FIA’s new president last week, after more than a decade during wich Jean Todt assumed the responsibilities of FIA president.
Writing on the social media platform, the close members of Michael Schumacher’s inner circle posted the following message:
“Celebrating a man who has always had a vision and a great heart. Jean, you made your mark in the world of motorsport and you are an inspiration for many around the world in your fight for road safety. We are proud to have you at our side. Love from the entire Schumacher family.”
Jean Todt immediately replied: “I love you for ever.”
The seven-time world champion and then team principal Jean Todt formed a formidable duo in the 90s early 20s, leading Scuderia Ferrari to one the most most successful and dominant eras ever seen in Formula One history, as well as becoming close friends.

Michael took his first Formula 1 title back in 1994 with Benetton and his second one year later, after which he joined the Italian side, in a moment in which Ferrari was going through a difficult period. The German driver went on to win five consecutive world titles from 2000 to 2004 before leaving Ferrari and Formula 1 in 2006. After four years, Michael made his comeback with Mercedes before eventually retiring in 2012.
One year later, the German was the victim of a tragic ski accident in the French Alps, and since then the family has understandably chosen to keep much of Michael Schumacher’s condition private. Yet clearly still close with the family, and Michael Schumacher’s wife Corinna, Jean Todt only recently revealed that he sees the seven-time world champion “at least twice a month”.
“I don’t leave him alone. Him, Corinna, the family — we’ve had so many experiences together. The beauty of what we have experienced is part of us and it goes on.” – Jean Todt confirmed, as the Frenchman has been linked with a possible return to Ferrari in 2022.
