Scuderia Ferrari and Formula 1 icon Michael Schumacher has reportedly been seen in public for the first time in over a decade, attending his daughter Gina-Marie’s wedding. This rare appearance comes after 11 years of near-total privacy following the traumatic brain injury Schumacher suffered in a 2013 skiing accident.
The extent of his injuries has never been fully disclosed, but they brought an abrupt end to Schumacher’s public life, with his family fiercely guarding his privacy. Since the accident, only a few close family members and medical professionals have had access to the 55-year-old. This level of privacy has even distanced him from extended family, including his brother, Ralf Schumacher, also a former F1 driver.
However, there are signs that the Schumacher family may be easing some of their strict secrecy. Gina-Marie, 27, recently wed Iain Bethke at the family’s luxurious Mallorca estate. The sprawling property, which covers over 15,000 square meters, was purchased by the family in 2017 for approximately £27 million from Real Madrid chairman Florentino Perez. Complete with two pools, a helipad, and expansive gardens, it provided the perfect venue for the private celebration.
Security and privacy remained paramount during the event, with guests required to leave their phones at the door. Nevertheless, it is believed that this occasion marked the first time Michael Schumacher had been seen interacting with friends and family in public since his accident, possibly indicating a shift in his wife Corinna’s approach to his privacy.
Ralf Schumacher previously revealed that he no longer has regular contact with his brother and Corinna but expressed his support for the family. “When I see his children Gina-Marie and Mick, it makes me happy,” he told German magazine *Bunte*. He emphasized that he’s always available if the family seeks his advice, even though they “go their own way.”
While the relationship between Ralf and Corinna has been strained, Ralf’s openness about his personal life, including his coming out after a divorce from his ex-wife, Cora, has reportedly helped heal some family rifts.
The wedding ceremony, which reportedly lasted about 30 minutes, saw Gina-Marie and Iain say their vows around 4 p.m. According to local reports from Mallorca, the event was a success, fueling speculation that Michael Schumacher may appear at more public family gatherings in the future.

There are even rumors that another family wedding may be on the horizon. Michael and Corinna’s youngest son, Mick Schumacher, who is currently a Formula 1 reserve driver, has been dating Danish model Laila Hasanovic, 24, for about 18 months. It is believed Mick may have proposed to her, with a wedding possibly planned for 2025. Laila, who has grown close to the Schumacher family, is reportedly one of the few non-family members who has been allowed to visit Michael.
The former Ferrari junior congratulated his sister on her wedding on social media, sharing a heartfelt message: “I’m so happy for you two.”
