Michael Schumacher is being celebrated by Lego throughout the 2026 Italian Grand Prix weekend, with a huge collaborative mosaic in Milan forming the centrepiece of a series of Formula 1-themed activities. The Danish company is joining the celebrations marking 30 years since the seven-time world champion arrived at Ferrari in 1996, paying tribute to one of the most important figures in the Scuderia’s history.
The main attraction is at the Arco della Pace in Piazza Sempione, Milan, where visitors are helping to construct a large artwork inspired by the Lego Icons Ferrari F2004 and Michael Schumacher set. Measuring three metres wide and 1.80 metres high, the mosaic is dedicated to the unforgettable German champion and is made from almost 85,000 Lego bricks.

The project is designed as a collective creation, with visitors to the play area adding the mosaic piece by piece under the careful supervision of its creator, Riccardo Zangelmi. The initiative adds another element to a Monza weekend already filled with celebrations of Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari legacy 30 years after his 1996 arrival.
The play area was officially inaugurated on the evening of Thursday, 3 September, with Radio Deejay personality Linus and Sky Sport F1 commentator Carlo Vanzini in attendance. The pair shared anecdotes and memories of Michael Schumacher, recalling the seven-time Formula 1 world champion and the extraordinary period of success he enjoyed with Ferrari at the beginning of the 2000s.
Construction of the collective artwork continues throughout the Italian Grand Prix weekend. The area is open from 16:00 to 19:00 on Friday, 4 September, and from 10:00 to 19:00 on both Saturday, 5 September, and Sunday, 6 September.
The celebrations continue into the evening as well. On all three nights, from 19:00 until 22:00, Lego is paying tribute to Michael Schumacher with a special video shown every half-hour across three giant screens shaped like Lego bricks. The initiative offers fans another way to celebrate three decades since the German driver began his Ferrari journey in 1996.
Lego expands its Formula 1 activities across the Monza weekend
The Michael Schumacher mosaic is not the only Lego attraction planned around the Italian Grand Prix. Inside the Fan Zone at Monza, visitors can enter the Home of Lego F1, where a full-scale front wing and steering wheel from the Ferrari SF-24 model used for the drivers’ parade at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix are on display.
Fans can also play inside two giant helmets, adding another interactive element to the Formula 1 experience at the circuit.
Activities are also taking place away from the track. At the Palazzo dell’Arengario in central Monza, as part of the FuoriGP programme, Lego F1 helmets representing Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are due to be displayed.
A dedicated play area for younger enthusiasts is also being installed there, extending the celebrations beyond the circuit and into the city during one of the biggest Formula 1 weekends of the year.
With the giant Milan mosaic, evening projections and Formula 1 installations around Monza, Lego’s programme combines the excitement surrounding the Italian Grand Prix with a tribute to Michael Schumacher and the 30th anniversary of the partnership with Ferrari that began in 1996.
