The new project of American director, screenwriter and film producer Michael Kenneth Mann, Ferrari, has began production in Italy. The new biopic will present the story of Enzo Ferrari’s life, the Italian motor racing driver and entrepreneur, the founder of the Scuderia Ferrari Grand Prix motor racing team, and subsequently of the Ferrari luxury sports car company.
Playing on the role of Enzo Ferrari is American actor Adam Driver who looks like he has a penchant for playing Italian entrepreneurs. Last year, Adam Driver played Maurizio Gucci in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci. Also starring in the new film are Penélope Cruz as Laura Ferrari, Shailene Woodley as Lina Lardi, Patrick Dempsey as racing car driver Piero Taruffi, Jack O’Connell as racing car driver Peter Collins, Sarah Gadon as Linda Christian, and Gabriel Leone as Fon De Portago. American actor Patrick Dempsey, best known for his role as neurosurgeon Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd in Grey’s Anatomy , has a pretty unique connection to his new race car driving role, given the fact that the 56-year-old actor is himself a race car driver.
Michael Mann is directing the new film, which is based on a script by Troy Kennedy Martin and inspired from a book by Brock Yates entitled Enzo Ferrari – The Man and the Machine. Michael Mann is producing the film through his production company Moto Pictures along with P.J. van Sandwijk, John Lesher, John Friedberg, Lars Sylvest, Thorsten Schumacher, Gareth West, and Thomas Hayslip. The American director has confirmed the start of production on his social media accounts, as well as sharing a behind the scenes image.

The film is set during the summer of 1957 and will follow ex-race car driver, Enzo Ferrari, through crises both financial and personal. With the prospect of bankruptcy looming, a failing marriage, and the loss of a beloved son, Enzo takes a huge gamble on an epic 1,000-mile race across Italy in an open-road, motorsport endurance race called Mille Miglia.

Ferrari is set to be released next year and is currently under production on location in Italy.
