The 2026 Miami Grand Prix burst into life the moment the lights went out, delivering immediate drama at Turn 1 as Charles Leclerc seized the lead in spectacular fashion while Max Verstappen suffered a costly spin in the opening corners.
Lap 1/57: Miami Grand Prix explodes into action
Racing was underway in Miami, and there was no shortage of action from the very first meters of the race. Charles Leclerc launched aggressively off the line, going three-wide alongside Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli as they approached Turn 1 in a tightly packed battle for position.
The Ferrari driver executed a perfectly judged move, cutting back underneath both rivals to emerge in the lead as the field funnelled through the opening sequence of corners. It was a decisive and opportunistic manoeuvre that immediately reshaped the race order.
Behind him, however, chaos unfolded. Max Verstappen lost control of his Red Bull on the exit of Turn 1 while applying power, resulting in a spin that dropped him down the order in dramatic fashion.
Remarkably, there was no major contact in the incident. Despite the intensity of the three-way battle, Verstappen managed to avoid being collected by other cars, but the damage to his race was already done as he rejoined far behind the front-running group.
With Charles Leclerc leading and Max Antonelli in close pursuit, the opening lap of the Miami GP immediately set the tone for what promised to be a highly unpredictable race, with early position changes and drama already shaking up the championship contenders.
