The Mexico Grand Prix should take place this year at the end of October. At the beginning of 2021, coronavirus cases increased rapidly but the country seems to have the situation under control now. For a while, the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez was used as an extra hospital, but everything seems to indicate that the Mexican GP can ‘just’ go ahead this year.
At an earlier stage, it was already decided that Formula E (scheduled for 19 and 20 June) would be moved from Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez to Puebla. Formula 1 does not have to worry about such a scenario. GPblog.com contacted the track in Mexico City to ask how preparations for the Formula 1 weekend are going and if it is expected that spectators will be admitted at the end of October.
Mexico is doing everything it can
A spokesperson for the Mexican circuit commented: “We want to give to all the attendees the certainty that we are working along with the local Mexican authorities to welcome F1 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Rest assured that we will implement the best and safest measures for the Mexico GP, always complying with top sanitary regulations.”
It is still too early to promise that fans will be able to attend to see the premier class of motorsport live in action. “These measures are still under careful analysis and development considering that we are still over five months away from our race; nevertheless, these details will be publicly shared in due time,” the statement reads.
