Mercedes vs Ferrari Is the Main Event in Miami

Mercedes arrives in Miami as the standard, Ferrari arrives as the team trying hardest to turn that standard into a fight, and the Stake board reflects exactly that. Through three races, Mercedes has won them all and built a 135-90 lead over Ferrari in the Constructors’ Championship. George Russell won in Australia, Kimi Antonelli won in China and Japan, and Miami now feels like the next check on whether Ferrari is close enough to make this more than a silver procession.

At Stake.com Miami race market, Russell and Antonelli are both priced at 2.40, while Charles Leclerc is at 15.00 and Lewis Hamilton is at 17.00. In the Miami winning constructor market, Mercedes sits at 1.25 and Ferrari at 7.50. Essentially the numbers are telling us that one team is expected to control the weekend and the other needs something extra to break in.

Miami International Autodrome has 19 corners, three straights and top speeds above 350 kph, which makes it one of those circuits where a car must be perfect. Teams need straight line speed, braking confidence, traction in the slower sections, and enough balance to survive the tricky parts of the track without chewing up the tires.

Mercedes Has the Car to Beat

Mercedes has already passed several different tests. It was fast enough to lock one-two in Australia, where Russell beat Antonelli and Ferrari had to settle for third and fourth. The same scenario happened in China, where Antonelli beat Russell while Hamilton and Leclerc filled the next two places. Then in Japan it still had the pace to win even after Antonelli’s poor start knocked him down the order early. One fast weekend can flatter a team. Three wins from three, in three different kinds of races, usually means the car is superior compared to other teams.

Russell called the win in Australia “a long time coming,” which sounded like a driver who knew Mercedes had finally built something worth trusting again. Antonelli, after Japan, tried to keep the title talk under control and said it was too early to think about the championship, but he also admitted Mercedes were “on the good way.” Toto Wolff was even more emotional, which is a super rare occurrence, after China, saying he felt “overwhelmed” by Antonelli’s first win and the Mercedes one-two. They proved that the car is fast and strong enough that two different drivers can win in it without the team having to hide behind strategy tricks.

However, Mercedes seems to have read the new rules better than most teams, especially around power unit efficiency and energy use. Rivals pushed the FIA to look at a suspected engine advantage linked to compression ratio at running temperature, and F1 has also moved to clamp down on a separate power use trick that appeared during qualifying, but the bigger point is that Mercedes arrived with a package that understood this new era faster than the rest. In Miami, that’s going to make a huge difference.

That’s why expert betting picks and predictions for F1 have them at 1.25 to win the race as a constructor and why the two Mercedes drivers sit together at the top of the winner market at 2.40.

Ferrari Is Closing the Gap

Screenshot 3

Ferrari’s season has not been disappointing so much as unfinished. They are clearly the nearest challengers and Mercedes’ closest rivals after Australia and China. Leclerc went third in Australia, fourth in China, then back to third in Japan. Hamilton was fourth in Australia, third in China, and sixth in Japan. The team is second in the standings on 90 points and have generally looked quick enough to stay in the podium fight, just not quite quick enough to take control of a race weekend from Mercedes.

That gap stands out because Ferrari is not getting blown away in one area. They’re being beaten in smaller ways that add up. In Australia, they were in the fight but finished behind both Mercedes. In China, Hamilton made the podium, but Antonelli and Russell still locked out the top two. In Japan, Leclerc reached the podium again, but he still finished behind the winning Mercedes and the McLaren of Oscar Piastri. Ferrari is there, but they’re not dictating the weekends. That’s why the Miami race is so important for the team. Ferrari needs a weekend that looks like a proper threat.

Leclerc’s recent comments sound like a driver who sees the gap but doesn’t think it’s fatal. He said “our time will come” and pointed to the spirit still inside Ferrari. He has also been more specific about what’s missing, saying after the first three races that the team’s main weakness is qualifying. That’s a big point for Miami. If Ferrari is giving away grid positions to Mercedes, they are making life harder for themselves. On a track where speed on the straights and clean air can mean a lot, starting behind a Mercedes is the worst possible outcome. Especially because Ferrari is the fastest car once the lights go off, so it would be such a shame to not use that advantage and leave the Mercedes in the dust.

Hamilton has sounded upbeat too. After Australia he said Ferrari were right in the championship fight despite being outpaced by Mercedes, and after his first Ferrari Grand Prix podium in China he said a win was looking closer. That doesn’t mean that Ferrari is equal to Mercedes yet, but it does mean the drivers don’t think the gap is hopeless. The car looks competitive enough that one strong upgrade, one sharp qualifying session, or one slightly weak weekend for Mercedes could bring Ferrari right back into the championship fight. Miami GP betting markets still keep them clearly behind, but 7.50 in the winning constructor market is not the price of a team with no chance. It’s the price of the current second best option on the board.

How Mercedes and Ferrari Stack Up

Screenshot 4

Mercedes looks like a more rounded car. Ferrari looks like a car with stronger bursts. That is probably the simplest way to put it.

Mercedes has already shown they can win from the front and produce pace with both drivers. Ferrari, by contrast, has shown enough speed to get involved early in races and enough race pace to stay in touch, but not enough overall control particularly in the qualifying stages.

Leclerc’s launch in Australia was a perfect example. He jumped Russell at the start and briefly gave Ferrari the look of a team ready to take over the opening race of the season, but Mercedes still ended the afternoon with a one-two.

There’s also a difference in how comfortable the two teams look under the new rules. Mercedes looks like they found their answer early on. Ferrari looks like they found a good answer, just not the best one. It’s obvious that the first three races had left Leclerc frustrated with the new energy deployment and recharge system when the algorithm sometimes throws up strange power delivery problems if the driver made unintended inputs. That’s exactly the kind of thing that can cost tiny pieces of lap time in sectors where Mercedes seems more powerful.

That does not mean Ferrari is just slower in every sense. Hamilton was strong enough to finish on the podium in China, and Leclerc has reached the podium twice in three Grand Prix. The Ferrari is clearly quick. But when you compare it directly with Mercedes, the silver car looks more reliable over a full range of conditions. If you were choosing one car for Miami right now without knowing which driver would sit in it, you would still choose the Mercedes first. And the betting market agrees.

Russell and Antonelli are on 2.40. Ferrari’s best hope, Leclerc, is 15.00. Hamilton is 17.00. That’s not a small gap. That means that Ferrari is being priced as outsiders against one team, not against the whole circuit.

Russell and Antonelli Give Mercedes Two Different Ways to Win

This is where the Mercedes advantage gets even stronger. Russell and Antonelli are not copies of each other. Russell looks like a more reliable full weekend driver right now. Antonelli looks like the one coming in with more momentum. Russell won the opener in Australia, finished second in China, and came home fourth in Japan after losing out in the safety car timing. Antonelli won in China and Japan and now leads the championship by nine points. The important part is that Mercedes is not carrying one obvious main man and one helper. They have two real win threats, and the standings show it.

Wolff has made it clear he’s happy to let them race by saying that the pair are “absolutely off the leash” for now. That’s good news for fans and usually good news for the quicker car too. It means Mercedes is not over managing their own strength at this stage of the season. Russell can attack weekends in his usual way, breaking the curse of being the eternal Mr. Saturday, Antonelli can keep pushing his hot run, and the team can simply collect points at both ends of the garage. A team with the fastest car and two free drivers is a hard thing to fight.

Ferrari Has a Different Dynamic Between the Drivers

Screenshot 6

Ferrari has two big names too, but the internal picture is not as balanced. On Stake’s season-long Drivers’ Championship head to head, Leclerc is priced at 1.28 against Hamilton’s 3.35. That’s a pretty firm statement. It doesn’t say Hamilton can’t beat him, but the board sees Leclerc as the stronger bet over the full season. The outright title prices send the same message: Leclerc is 15.00, Hamilton 26.00. That gap is not massive, but it paints a clear picture of the atmosphere in the top team.

Leclerc has been the more consistent Ferrari driver, with two podiums from three races and better average finishing positions. Hamilton’s China podium was a reminder that he can still produce a win on Sunday, and his experience always keeps him in the spotlight. But if Ferrari is going to turn Miami into a winning weekend, Leclerc still looks like the sharper spearhead. His qualifying speed, his comfort with this team, and the market’s own numbers all point the same way.

Hamilton still plays a big part here because he can lift Ferrari’s level over a race weekend. A Ferrari with Leclerc alone feels like a threat. A Ferrari with Hamilton joining him near the front becomes a strategic headache for Mercedes. We saw a glimpse of it in China. If Ferrari brings something useful to Miami, Hamilton is exactly the kind of driver who can make the most of it.

What Are the Odds Saying About Miami GP?

Screenshot 7

The Miami market is not pricing Mercedes and Ferrari as evenly matched. It’s pricing Mercedes as the clear favorite and Ferrari as the team trying to upset them. Russell and Antonelli at 2.40 are clear favorites. Then the market jumps to Piastri at 10.00, Norris at 12.00, Leclerc at 15.00, Hamilton at 17.00, and Verstappen at 36.00. There’s a huge space between Mercedes drivers and everyone else. Ferrari is part of the chase group, but they are not sitting right on Mercedes’ shoulder by any means.

The constructors market says the same thing. Mercedes at 1.25, McLaren at 5.50, Ferrari at 7.50, Red Bull at 26.00. That price on Mercedes is the sportsbook saying the race should belong to them unless something unusual happens. Ferrari being third rather than second is also worth noticing. In the team standings Ferrari is second and clearly the closest challengers on points, but on this one race board McLaren are a bit shorter. That suggests the market respects McLaren’s single weekend upside in Miami even though Ferrari has had the better season so far. It’s a reminder that race odds and standings do not always tell exactly the same story.

The Best Picks Before Lights Out

Who has the best car? Mercedes.

Which team has the stronger two driver team? Also, Mercedes.

Is Ferrari close enough to turn Miami into a real race? Yes, if they do better in qualifying.

The season results, the standings and the Stake board all line up there.

The strongest Miami driver pick is still Russell or Antonelli at 2.40. Russell is the slightly safer call if you want the full weekend profile. Antonelli is the hotter pick if you want the driver who has actually won the last two races. Leclerc is Ferrari’s best shot, while Hamilton feels more like the outside swing.
