Would you sometimes like to have a Mercedes engine?
Charles Leclerc: “No, no. I am at Ferrari and proud to be here. Ferrari is a legend of F1. All I want at the moment, is to bring Ferrari, our engine and our car back to the top. Mercedes does a great job and I have huge respect for the work they are doing. But I prefer to stay with Ferrari and do what I can to bring the team back to where we want to be. I am sure that we will succeed.” My goal is to bring Ferrari back to where this team deserves to be – and this is certainly the first place. For this I give everything and this is also my dream since I was little.”
Will you swap helmets with Sebastian Vettel at the end of the season?
Charles Leclerc: “I wanted to ask Seb, I haven’t done that yet. I would definitely like it.”
You are doing better than Vettel in the car. What is your secret?
Charles: “I try to give 200% whenever I’m in the car. I changed my approach. This year I try to give everything from FP1 to the race. That helped me in quali & to drive the car consistently at its limit”
What about Vettel (he is struggling)?
Charles Leclerc: “I think it is also a difficult year for Seb, also because it is his last year at Ferrari. But he gets involved as always. Thanks to Seb, I have grown as a driver, but also as a person. I was impressed by the way he works with the team, the way he evaluates the data and how he gives feedback. He is incredibly professional and everyone respects him.”
Charles about Mick Schumacher: “He is a great driver and I hope we will see him in the F1 paddock next year.”
Charles on whether he would like to see Mick joining Ferrari as his teammate one day:
“Why not? Of course, in the end it’s not me who makes the decision, but that he comes to Ferrari, I would definitely wish it for him.”
Charles on his F1 idols: “For me there are two big legends and idols in F1: Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher. Just to get a helmet from one of them would be incredible. The gesture with Lewis and Mick was definitely very moving.”
