Austrian investor and former racing driver Toto Wolff, who currently is Team Principal and CEO of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team, has recently denied the interest of the Silver Arrows for Scuderia Ferrari’s chief technical director, Mattia Binotto, ahead of the 2019 Formula One season
At the same time, the Italian side has denied claims that Mattia Binotto was leaving the team, and the Swiss engineer is still member of the Ferrari team. Rumors started around that Mattia Binotto had offers from Renault and Mercedes. However, as reported earlier this week by Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Toto Wolff denies these rumors: “No, there was no offer to Binotto. He is a great engineer, but we have a very good first level technical team led by James Allison.” – he explained.
Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Maurizio Arrivabene also insists that the technical director is not going anywhere and will continue with the Italian side: “Let’s make it clear once and for all.” – he told Autosport a few weeks ago – “The rumours about Mattia are a fake news, put around to create instability in the team. It is an attempt to try to create problems where there are no problems, and I do not want to comment on false rumours anymore. During this season there have been many attempts at destabilisation, sometimes with stories about the drivers, others about the technicians. No one has ever spoken of goodbyes, possibly we can talk about reinforcements. But it takes time, we’ll think about it next season. Today the team is there, and it’s a good and compact team. If there are reinforcements they will arrive without any haste, I stress it, and [only] if we need to have them.” – Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Maurizio Arrivabene concluded.
