Rafael Camara, the young Brazilian talent from the Ferrari Driver Academy, is currently leading the FIA Formula 3 Championship in his debut season—a remarkable achievement that has turned the spotlight on his name. With four pole positions and three victories already under his belt, Camara has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in junior single-seaters.
Motorsport runs deep in Camara’s blood. His passion for racing comes from a unique family heritage: his grandmother was one of the pioneering women in Brazilian motorsport, becoming one of the first females to take to the track in the country. Camara had to wait until the age of six before he could climb into a kart, but once he did, he never looked back. Ever since, racing has defined his life.
He openly draws inspiration from the legendary Ayrton Senna, one of Brazil’s most iconic sporting figures. That connection to Brazilian racing greatness was further cemented on November 8, 2021, when Camara officially became part of the Ferrari Driver Academy. This partnership marked a key turning point in his development, aligning him with the Scuderia’s elite driver development program. As of now, he holds a commanding 27-point lead in the Formula 3 standings—an exceptional performance for a rookie in such a competitive field.
From Karting Prodigy to European Champion
Rafael Camara began making a name for himself in 2016, competing in the Mini Swift category at the SKUSA SuperNationals in the United States. He then transitioned to Europe, where he participated in the WSK Super Master Series. From 2019 onwards, his results became increasingly impressive, with regular wins that highlighted his consistency and raw speed.
The year 2021 proved to be a breakout season for the young Brazilian. He secured two WSK titles and triumphed in the prestigious Champions of the Future series. These accomplishments earned him the distinction of becoming only the third Brazilian driver to join the Ferrari Driver Academy, following in the footsteps of Enzo Fittipaldi and Gianluca Petecof.
In 2022, Camara continued to climb the single-seater ranks with impressive results across various Formula 4 championships. He finished second in the Formula 4 UAE Championship and claimed third place in both the Italian and German F4 series. His progression remained steady and impressive, paving the way for greater challenges ahead.
By 2024, he had joined the highly respected Prema Racing team and went on to dominate the Formula Regional European Championship. His performances throughout the season were so consistent and commanding that he clinched the championship title with one round still remaining—an emphatic statement of intent ahead of his move to Formula 3.
Formula 3: A Stellar Rookie Campaign in 2025
In 2025, Rafael Camara made his debut in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with the Trident team. Right from the start, he made headlines by securing pole position at the season opener in Melbourne and converting it into a stunning win in the Feature Race. He repeated the feat in Bahrain, once again taking pole and sealing victory in the main race of the weekend.
The momentum continued into Imola, where Camara claimed his third consecutive pole position. Although the race results were less impressive, his qualifying dominance was becoming a signature trait. At the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix weekend, traffic in qualifying limited his performance, but he bounced back in Barcelona, where he once again started from pole and went on to dominate the Feature Race.
The two rounds that followed proved more challenging, with results not meeting the high standards he had set in the earlier part of the season. However, despite those minor setbacks, Camara remains firmly at the top of the standings, with a comfortable points lead. His rookie campaign in Formula 3 has so far been exceptional, and what is most promising is that he still has room for further improvement.
If Rafael Camara maintains this trajectory and continues to refine his performance, it seems increasingly likely that he will soon take the next step—graduating to Formula 2 and ultimately pursuing his dream of reaching Formula 1. Given his heritage, natural talent, and strong backing from Ferrari, the path to the top tier of motorsport is wide open.
