Formula 1 is ready to start a new era marked by completely different rules and regulations. We will therefore see different cars and and performances that for now are unknown, with very little information available from the official pre-season testing session which took place at the Bahrain International Circuit.
However, one of the issues in the Sakhir paddock is that of relationships between the various teams, with McLaren rather worried, apparently without any reason, about the performance of the Haas. German motorsport engineer Andreas Seidl, team principal of McLaren, clarifies the position of the British team:
“We are very focused on our work, so I can’t speak specifically about Ferrari and Haas – said Andreas Seidl quoted by Autosport – “But it is no secret that these relationships may exist within the regulation, and they certainly worry us. So we believe that going forward we will need to ensure that Formula 1 returns to being a championship with ten, eleven or twelve real constructors. From our point of view, competing teams should be allowed to share only power units and gearbox elements, the rest you have to do by yourself, because the moment you go further, your car will also have a performance change and this is not Formula 1.” – Andreas Seidl said, hitting out at the ‘Haas hub’ in Maranello, out of which the new Haas VF-22 car was designed by a team led by ex-Ferrari senior designer Simone Resta.
“It is for this reason that we are constantly addressing this issue with the FIA - he added – and we have also talked about it with other equally concerned teams. I hope that at some point we will take some steps forward in this sense, because we need to have clear limits on what can be shared or not.” – he concluded.
