After two Grands Prix, Ferrari has accumulated just 17 points and is already 61 points behind McLaren, the championship leader, which has won both in Australia and China. In Maranello, there are questions about the validity of the SF-25 project and the necessary adjustments to unlock the car’s performance.
However, McLaren remains wary and fears a turnaround from Ferrari, the only team so far capable of beating them – in the Sprint Qualifying and the Shanghai Sprint.
Zak Brown fears the Reds
McLaren CEO Zak Brown explained after the Chinese GP: “I suspect that Ferrari will be our toughest rival because of their driver pairing. But to be honest, we take everyone seriously. George Russell is doing a fantastic job at Mercedes, and I think Andrea Kimi Antonelli will only get stronger. Red Bull is struggling with its driver situation, and Ferrari can expect to have Lewis and Charles in the top positions every weekend.”
Team principal Andrea Stella also refuses to rest on his laurels: “Things look pretty good, but the advantage we have is one or two tenths per lap. And that’s not much. We need to keep improving the car.” He also responded to those who see McLaren as dominant: “These are distractions that we do not take seriously,” he told Sky.
