Lately, Scuderia Ferrari has been frequently associated with a highly coveted name within the Formula 1 paddock. Naturally, hearing about the possibility of Lewis Hamilton joining Maranello has stirred up things among paddock insiders and Formula 1 expert. When the Prancing Horse brand is subject to such speculation, it creates a sort of chain reaction that inevitably involves everyone to some extent, especially in piquing the interest of the most accomplished drivers.
Among them, it was only fitting to include two-time world champion Max Verstappen, who, according to reports from ‘Rossomotori.it,’ when asked about his future, particularly after his time with Red Bull (his current contract with the Austrian side expires at the end of the 2028 Formula 1 season), stated: “By the time the current contract ends, I will be 31 years old, and I will have been racing in Formula 1 for a long time. I love winning, being competitive, but if you can’t fully motivate yourself to go to every race, then you have to ask yourself if you really want to continue.” – the Dutchman pointed out.
Max Verstappen’s interests
“I love the 24 Hours of Le Mans and endurance races, I love watching GT3 cars racing at the Nurburgring,” he continued regarding what could be his interests outside of Formula 1 – “These are all things I want to try in my life, and I don’t want to do them when I’m 40 or 50 years old. At that point, I won’t be performing at my best anymore. I believe I can still achieve great things when I’m 31. I’m quite convinced of that.” – the Red Bull man continued.
However, Max Verstappen’s interest in Ferrari currently faces an insurmountable obstacle.
Continuing to talk about what he will do once his contract with Red Bull concludes, Max Verstappen shares a rather intriguing thought: “A lot will depend on how competitive we are between now and 2028. It would be difficult to leave with a dominant project. I am often asked if I have a dream team, and I know that Ferrari boasts an incredible history in Formula 1. It’s a team for which it would be fantastic to race. However, as I’ve always said, I just want to have the fastest car.” – the Dutchman admitted.

Clearly, Max Verstappen would be very interested in driving for the Prancing Horse, but in a way, it is the Italian team itself that precludes any chance. Until they have a competitive project, they can never be the first choice for the two-time world champion.
