The Las Vegas weekend has just begun, and as usual, driver interviews precede the on-track activities. In addition to the press conference session, some drivers make themselves available for questions in the ring located in the paddock. Among them were Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen, who became the protagonists of a decidedly amusing exchange.
During the customary interview, Max Verstappen was asked how he would deal with the cold of the night to prepare for the qualifying lap.
“Do you think you have better chances than Charles during qualifying?” the journalist asked. Verstappen’s playful response was not lacking as he commented, “I don’t know, we should ask Charles.” As fate would have it, Charles Leclerc was right next to the Red Bull driver, and, feeling called, he approached Max.
“Could you repeat the question?” Max Verstappen asked the journalist. “Charles, do you think Ferrari will be able to warm up the tires better than Red Bull in preparation for qualifying?” Before Charles Leclerc could answer, Max Verstappen intervened, starting an exceedingly hilarious exchange.
“Maybe you could give the tires a good massage,” Max commented, followed by Charles Leclerc’s response, “It would be nice to give the tires a massage, but it’s cold, and we’d have to make an effort.” The exchange continued with Verstappen adding, “Perhaps a more aggressive massage” (mimicking the movement of a shiatsu massage).
From there, the banter between the two drivers continued on the possibilities of seeing a battle between Ferrari and Red Bull, wondering which of the two would be faster at getting the tires up to temperature. “I think we will be stronger; what do you think?” Charles Leclerc asked Verstappen. “I don’t think so strongly,” Max replied. It all ended with a laugh from Leclerc, who said, “Okay, we’ll see.”
