Scuderia Ferrari expected better from their Singapore weekend after losing 10 points to title rival Lewis Hamilton, who won the race. Sebastian Vettel ran second behind Hamilton in the opening stages but an attempt to jump ahead of the Mercedes by switching to the ultra-soft tyres backfired. He lost time behind Sergio Perez and fell behind Max Verstappen. After dropping behind the Red Bull, Sebastian Vettel told his team they had warned him “too late” about the threat from his rival. However he said the gamble of pitting early and putting on ultra-soft tyres in a bid to get ahead of Hamilton had been a risk worth taking.
“Today’s winner deserved the victory. After Sebastian overtook Verstappen, we went for an aggressive strategy, trying for the undercut on the Ultrasoft tyres. Unfortunately, during the one lap that would prove to be crucial, we found ourselves behind another car and so we were unable to run at a fast enough pace. Despite today’s result, not all is lost. Now, calmly and with determination, we will tackle the remaining six races, fighting all the way to the end.” – Maurizio Arrivabene, the team principal of the Scuderia Ferrari Formula One team, concluded at the end of the 2018 Singapore Grand Prix, as report by Ferrari’s official website earlier today.
