Ferrari is in the middle af a huge storm. As the Maranello team prepares to leave for Australia where the first Grand Prix of the 2020 Formula One season should take place, the Scuderia is experiencing violent turbulence outside and inside the Racing Department.
And in this very heavy climate Mattia Binotto wrote to the employees of the Racing Department as he usually does after a test or a race. The Italian side’s Team Principal thanked everyone for their efforts in the winter tests held at the Circuit de Catalunya, also noting that the SF1000 car won’t be fast enough to challenge for victory in Australia yet, but he hopes that there will be a quick reaction from everyone
No controversy, no accusations, but only the acknowledgement of a situation which has already been admitted in the meeting with the press that Mattia held in Spain after the last day of testing.
According to Charles Leclerc, Ferrari will only be the third force in Melbourne behind Mercedes and Red Bull Racing. The Monegasque in the interview with Motorsport.com added he was certain that ” everyone on the team will roll up their sleeves and improve, as we did last year”.
And the team principal is convinced of this, given that he hinted at a reaction from the fourth Grand Prix, that is, from the return to Zandvoort, the first European race or from Spain when a revised and improved SF1000 should appear.
In short, in the most difficult moment for Ferrari, subjected to a severe attack by seven teams led by Mercedes, it is time to keep cool and the group united, waiting for the FIA to respond.
Helmut Marko claims a disqualification of the Maranello team from the 2019 Constructors’ world championship, counting on getting his hands on the large amount of cash prizes worth millions of euros, but the Austrian consultant is perhaps going too fast, because it is not known what there may be behind the criticized FIA-Ferrari agreement.
