Max Verstappen won his home Grand Prix at Zandvoort for the second time in a row after a strategical race involving all three Pirelli tyre compounds. Mercedes’ George Russell finished second with Charles Leclerc completing the podium.
For the Maranello team, things started to go wrong when Carlos Sainz entered the pits for the first time, as the Ferrari crew didn’t even have the left rear tyre ready. Sergio Perez, who entered at the same time just behind Carlos Sainz was long gone before the Spaniard eventually got going again. He was 9s behind the Mexican versus 1s ahead before the pitstop. Charles Leclerc had a better stop on lap 18, but a bad timing from a Virtual Safety Car and not a great race pace from the F1-75 car meant that Charles had to settle for third place in the 2022 Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort.
Scuderia Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto shared his thoughts on the outcome of the Dutch Grand Prix for the Italian side:
“Today we are not satisfied. We lacked pace and this has been happening for some races already. When you are worried about the pace, and you do not live up to expectations, the causes must be investigated. Today we are not satisfied. We weren’t fast. We made a mess in Carlos’ pit. With Charles we were unlucky in strategy. We saw that Tsunoda had a problem, he was returning to the garage and therefore we were confident that we could stop. Instead he stopped and caused a VSC few corners later, it’s bad luck, an unpredictable event. We think Carlos lost pace in the incident with Lewis. We will do our best in Monza.” – Scuderia Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto concluded.
