During the lunch break at the Circuit de Catalunya, where the third day of pre-season testing is taking place, Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto took part in a press conference and answered questions from the media.
Here are some of the most important statements from Mattia Binotto:
On Ferrari’s testing schedule and engine issue during the morning session:
“We are testing various configurations on the car and the top speeds that we have achieved have no connection with the engine problem. We are focusing on set up and not performance. Of course last year during this time, we were more optimistic but we know how it went in Australia and we must not forget that. Difficult to say if we are faster than the others. We have some concerns at the moment and as I said we are not as optimistic as we were last year. We cannot say that we have the speed that you would expect. But it’s a very long season with a lot of time to work. Next week you will see a SF1000 that is very similar to the one on the track now, but we will focus on performance.” “

On Sebastian and Charles:
“Sebastian and Charles know each other much better and they work well together, finding the best solutions for the car. I think Charles did a great season last year and it is right that he starts at the same level as Sebastian without team orders.”
Mattia Binotto about the DAS system: “We have faith in the judgment of the FIA on this system. Surely we will look at ourselves to evaluate whether or not to develop it too. If we decide to use it, most certainly we will not be able to introduce it until the half of the season. The process of developing and having it approved would be very long. More than making life difficult at Mercedes through queries to the FIA, we want to make it difficult on the track for them. We don’t have an evaluation of the maximum potential of the SF1000 yet. We will do it next week when we start working on it.”
