While the first free practice session for the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix showed some encouraging signs for Scuderia Ferrari at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, FP2 proved far more challenging for the Italian side. With half an hour before the end of the second practice session, Charles Leclerc ended up in the tire pile, while teammate Carlos Sainz finished just outside the top ten.
Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto shares his thoughts on the frirst two practice sessions at Spa-Francorchamps:
“It was quite different between FP1 and FP2. FP1 was promising, but FP2 and Charles’ crash were not great. Very little speed. The conditions are changeable. Tomorrow will be the same,” the Maranello team’s boss told the Sky Sports camera – “So it would be important to find the balance and make the driver feel comfortable in the car. It’s important to collect data and today we collected a lot of data.” – he added.
New Power Unit
According to Mattia Binotto, there are a few races coming up that will be interesting for Ferrari. Regarding the power unit upgrade, the Ferrari boss does not want to provide more details and explains that “it hasn’t been decided yet [when it will be introduced], because we are testing it on the dyno. We know it will be there before the end of the season. It was important to bring it with a view to 2022. Whatever we bring, it will be a useful experience for next year.” – Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto concluded at the end of FP2.
