The 2020 Formula 1 season has now come to an end, with Scuderia Ferrari in sixth position in the constructors’ standings, which has not happened since 1980. A definitely negative result if we think that the Maranello team was overtaken by teams like Racing Point third, McLaren fourth and Renault fifth.
Improvements but not enough to catch Mercedes
Ferrari are definitely aiming for 2021 and in this regard, here are the words of the Scuderia team principal, Mattia Binotto: “The 2021 engine is running well on the bench and continues to make progress. I really don’t think we will be the ones with the least power engine in 2021. We will be back in the fight and we will certainly be more competitive than today.”
Obviously the team principal does not want to give false hope to the Ferrari fans and does not want to create false expectations: “In terms of downforce Mercedes is certainly very strong and I don’t think we will be able to reach it. The 2021 engine is a project that is going very well, but the gap to Mercedes is too big.” – he explained.
