The pride of having been the only team to really contend with Mercedes for the Formula 1 title in the turbo-hybrid era and the awareness of being on the right path to fight with conviction for results of absolute prestige starting from next season. A 2022 season when F1 changes will mark the return of the ground effect, a revolution that was expected already in 2021, but that was postponed for 12 months due to the pandemic, in order to allow the teams the possibility to better prepare the economic impact resulting from the Coronavirus and all that it entailed.
Interviewed by Il Foglio Quotidiano, Scuderia Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto underlined the history of F1 teaches that successes and winning cycles are the result of several seasons in which a team built itself up with patience before being able to enjoy the results of its work on the track.
“We must not forget that Ferrari has finished second in the constructors’ championship four times in the last six years – the words of Mattia Binotto questioned on what Ferrari has been missing in this last period in which the Maranello team was not able to win any titles – “then I remember 2017-’18 , that world championship that we could also have won and that we missed. We were the only ones to challenge for the title with Mercedes, which they have won all these years. Last year it was certainly difficult, but we are a young team that is growing. We have all the elements to do well, but it takes patience. You see in the history of Formula One, winning cycles only open after a period of construction and patience. Whether there will be occasions like the one we had in Monaco? It will be very difficult, there are stronger cars and they have already shown it. The important thing on our part will be to carry on the desire to win, to grow as a team, in all sectors. To prepare for a future that does not lie in a single victory, but in a winning cycle”. – the Ferrari boss concluded.
