Mattia Binotto and Sebastian Vettel statements from yesterday’s press conference:
Mattia Binotto: “We know what we have in him [Vettel]. At some point, the moment will come when we sit down together. It will be an easy matter. Maybe we’ll do it over dinner with a glass of wine.”
How much credit should Sebastian Vettel get for the improvement at Ferrari since 2015?
Mattia Binotto: “I think big credit. No doubt. He comes with a lot of experience, being a world champion. I think he is a great leader in the team, with the engineers. And with his teammate aswell. Seb is always trying to push ourselves to the best. He is indicating within the organization what he feels is not going right or where we should improve. He tries to help the entire group to improve.”
Mattia Binotto: “He (Seb) is demanding in what is important for the team and I think that is a key attitude.”
Are you demanding?
Seb: “I think I can be annoying aswell so. There is a fine line between being demanding and annoying.”
Sebastian Vettel about whether Charles being a Ferrari driver (long-term) could influence his own decision: “Obviously he is in a different stage of his career than I am and I am aware of that but I don’t think ultimatically it matters too much.”
Was it painful to hear that Charles Leclerc signed a long-term contract with Ferrari?
Sebastian Vettel: “No, I was quite happy for him. I don’t see why it should have been painful for me[..] Right from the start I had a good relationship with Charles. I think we get along so.”
Sebastian Vettel: “Right now it is not that important but there will be a time like Mattia said, to get through these things and sort out the future. But I would appreciate it, if that was the last question regarding that. Hopefully we are the next one to make the first step.”
Sebastian Vettel: “I think it is vice-versa when it comes to the first option (Ferrari also being Seb’s first option) but right now the highest priority is the car down in the garage, that we squeeze everything out and learn as much as we can.”
