The weekend of the Brazilian Grand Prix started yesterday with a big surprise and continued today with a thrilling Sprint race event at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace.
After yesterday’s incredible pole position taken by Kevin Magnussen, George Russell won today in the third and final Sprint Race of the 2022 Formula 1 season. The Mercedes driver preceded the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz at the finish line of the Interlagos mini-race, following a great performance marked by a spectacular overtaking move on the Red Bull of Max Verstappen, with a lot of slight contact between the two cars. Unfortunately, the Spaniard will not be able to start from the front row on the grid tomorrow. In fact, due to the replacement of the internal combustion engine, the Ferrari driver will have to start the Brazilian Grand Prix from P7.
Charles Leclerc completed a good day for the Maranello team, as the Monegasque driver recovered from tenth place to finish in P6. The Monegasque also limited the damage in the Drivers’ standings regarding the duel for second place against the second Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez. The Mexican finished fifth, earning just one point in the general standings over the driver from Maranello. Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto was asked precisely about the Charles Leclerc – Sergio Perez duel, in a video discussion with Sky Sport F1 directly from his location in Maranello, where he remained during the Brazilian F1 weekend.
The Ferrari boss also wanted to point out to Red Bull’s strategy decision not to allow Sergio Perez to overtake Max Verstappen, following the criticism received by the Maranello team due to the strategic mistakes made in qualifying with Charles Leclerc’s tyres.

Mattia Binotto pointed out to Red Bull’s failed team order, as the Austrian side would have had the opportunity to give Sergio Perez an extra point by ordering Max Verstappen, who finished fourth, to let his teammate overtake him. Sergio Perez himself, via radio, had asked to swap positions:
“I am surprised that Red Bull has not swapped positions – said the Ferrari team principal after the Brazil Sprint race – it was very simple, almost mandatory to do it and they didn’t. Strange, we see that they too have their difficulties in making themselves understood by drivers. The battle for second place? We are focused on it, it is important for the Constructors and for the Drivers championship, especially for Charles, for how he started at the beginning of the year”. – Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto concluded after the Brazil Sprint race.
