Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto admitted at the end of the Italian Grand Prix that there is a need for clarification in the Scuderia camp regarding the events which took place in the final stages of the qualifying session, when Charles Leclerc should have been in front of Sebastian Vettel to give him a tow that is so crucial for the lap time on the Monza circuit.
However, given that all drivers wanted to position themselves in the best possible way for the final lap in Q3, Sebastian Vettel, like many other drivers, did not manage to start the qualifying lap on time, resulting in a foruth place starting position on Sunday.
Mattia Binotto explained after the race in Monza: “What has happened over the last few days, we three (Seb/Charles/Mattia) will discuss internally. But Sebastian has already said that we should leave this episode behind us and look ahead.” The Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal also hopes his drivers will pull together in the future and continue to work side by side for the Maranello team: “I don’t think that the further cooperation will suffer as a result of what happened. But of course I can’t promise now that it won’t happen again. We must learn from this.” – the Ferrari boss added.
At the same time, Sebastian Vettel did not look for excuses after his disappointing outcome in Monza: “Something like that does not happen to me normally, but happened today. It was my fault. Of course I can not be satisfied with my performance. The episode from qualifying played no role in the start and the race” – the German stressed.
