Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto plans to skip more races to focus on the team’s 2022 car development, but is confident that racing director Laurent Mekies can do a great job. Binotto will most likely travel to Auston for the United States Grand Prix next weekend, and will then miss the Mexico City Grand Prix and Brazilian Grand Prix in the first half of November in order to focus on the development work for the 2022 Formula 1 season, when Ferrari hopes to be able to challenge for race when.
In the meanwhile, Laurent Mekies will lead the team in the absence of Mattia Binotto, as confirmed by the Italian side’s team principal:
“From the way I’m managing the race weekend… on Thursday and Friday, being in the office, I can certainly be more focused on whatever is happening back here in Maranello. On Saturday and Sunday, it’s fully dedicated to the race weekend. I’m missing the networks in the paddock, but Laurent Mekies can do a great job. I’m very happy with how he is managing the entire team when I am not there, so I am very happy with that,” Mattia Binotto said in praise of Laurent Mekies.
Ahead of the 2021 United States Grand Prix, Scuderia Ferrari are involved to a close fight for third place in the constructors’ standings with McLaren, and are 7.5 points behind the Woking based team with six events to go until the end of the championship.
