During the week of the Canadian Grand Prix, various Italian media outlets spread growing rumors about the increasing pressure on Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur. These pressures stem from the Maranello team’s poor start to the 2025 Formula 1 season which, after big winter promises and the free hand given to the French manager to shape the team his way, have put Frédéric under scrutiny and in a precarious position, with several names emerging as possible replacements, such as Christian Horner or Ferrari’s Endurance division head, Antonello Coletta.
Denials but…
As expected, denials came from Maranello, with Ferrari emphasizing that there is no truth to these rumors. Furthermore, during the press conference at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the drivers supported Fred Vasseur, expressing their views on the speculation and their full trust in the team’s boss. Besides those directly involved, former F1 driver Martin Brundle also commented on the matter, arguing that it would be wrong to change the team principal again. In fact, firing Fred Vasseur now would be a crazy decision for Ferrari, likely because it would compromise team stability and cause new upheavals in a squad that has only recently started working in the way it was designed.
Martin Brundle speaks
“Is he the problem? I don’t think Fred Vasseur is the problem right now. The car isn’t fast. This is a collaboration between everyone on the team. Who would you replace him with? When a change comes, everyone puts their head down, starts working quietly, and waits to meet the new boss. I think that is the last thing Ferrari needs. Fred has a lot of experience, he knows how to handle pressure. Just a year ago, everyone was celebrating the extraordinary work done to revive Ferrari. This isn’t a Premier League club where you change the coach until you find the right one. You can’t do that. It would be madness.” – concluded the British former racing driver and broadcaster who competed in Formula One from 1984 to 1996.
