British former racing driver, best known as a Formula One driver and as a commentator for Sky Sports, Martin Brundle, feels that there is a structural problem at Scuderia Ferrari, following speculation that Mattia Binotto could be replaced as team principal at the end of the current Formula 1 season:
“Ferrari have a very fast car this year and two great young drivers, and they’ve underperformed,” said Martin Brundle, ahead of the first free practice session for the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final round of the championship.
“They may even lose second place here to Mercedes-Benz. But they’re miles behind Red Bull when they shouldn’t be. Strategy calls, reliability issues, drivers throwing it in the wall – one way or another Ferrari have massively underperformed, which indicates that there’s problems in the structure, in the management, in the organisation. And now we cars in the pitlane, can’t decide which tyres to put on it or they put the wrong tyres on it. And that indecision, which bubbles right up to the surface which we can see. About behind the scenes, clearly there’s some issues so inevitably, not only because it’s team Ferrari, it’s team Italy, the pressure is on and it’s very hard to cope with.” – the Sky Sports commentator added.
“When we had Jean Todt, the Frenchman, Ross Brawn, the Englishman, Roary Byrne, the South African and so on, they seemed to be impervious to all of that, but when it’s just Italian management, they get a huge amount of pressure.” – Martin Brundle pointed out.
