British former racing driver and Sky Sports F1 expert Martin Brundle has been talking about the possibility of a battle between Scuderia Ferrari team-mates Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc in the 2022 Formula One season, if indeed the Maranello team will be able to challenge for race wins, as many idicated after the first two days of pre-season testing in Bahrain.
“If that Ferrari is a race-winning proposition then it’s going to be fascinating controlling Charles Leclerc and young Carlito, because they’re pretty even-stevens,” Martin Brundle explained for Sky Sports F1 during the final day of pre-season testing session in Sakhir – “We saw them last year – quite feisty together, they’re respectful, they know who their employer is and their paymaster, but if there’s a sniff of race victories or the championship, that is going to get very competitive between the drivers. ” – he added.

Martin Brundle has also questioned the new race director structure and admitted that he is unconvinced by the new plan which the FIA have put in place to govern Formula 1 races following Michael Masi’s dismissal as race director.
Niels Wittich and Eduardo Freitas, who have recently worked in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and DTM respectively, are set to alternate in the race director role, with Herbie Blash assisting them as senior advisor.
There is also going to be a virtual race control room to assist the race director: “My alarm bells are already going off if we’re working around the DTM, WEC and Le Mans calendar,” Brundle said – “They’re good guys coming in, but I don’t know, it feels like we’re setting up a committee to make decisions and it doesn’t seem right to me.We’re waiting for the review and we’re waiting to see how the new plan works.” – he concluded.
