Mario Andretti feels Carlos Sainz can have a strong 2022 F1 season. Mario Andretti feels Carlos can have a strong 2022 F1 season.

The start of the 2022 Formula One season is getting closer and closer, but the wait for this event only increases the curiosity and general expectations of fans about the new generation of cars and the future of the sport. In this case, thanks to the numerous changes to the technical regulations, the biggest question mark for by the fans focuses on the name of the teams and driver who will be able to adapt to the changes in the best possible way, taking advantage of this singular circumstance to fight for race wins or at least a place in the top three.

Among the various opinions that emerged with just two months until the start of the challenges on the track, one of the most interesting was that of former Scuderia Ferrari driver Mario Andretti, who was also the Formula 1 world champion in 1978. The Italian-American, interviewed by racingnews365.com, in fact indicated some drivers who could make the difference in the next championship, also on the basis of what they managed to demonstrate in 2021: “I think Lando Norris is in a position to be a force to be taken into consideration, just like Carlos Sainz; for what he has been able to show at Ferrari, he too could be a protagonist of the next season. On top of that, I think he put pressure on Charles Leclerc, making him a little nervous on some occasions, and you could see that. Daniel Ricciardo also showed an enormous ability to express himself at his best with a top team,” – said Mario Andretti, who therefore believes in a much more stronger year for the Honey Badger.

Alongside these names, the 81-year-old from Motovun also underlined the enormous potential of top-ranked teams, who can count on many talented people inside the team, regardless of who will have the role of leading driver: “Overall – he added – the top teams are really well managed. If it is not one, it could be the other. In any case, you can go up and down the whole grid so there is always something interesting to look at. There is truly an incredible level of talent out there, no doubt. Right now, Formula 1 is richer as ever in this regard“.

In conclusion, confirming what was underlined, Mario Andretti also focused on three other protagonists of the sport who could reserve surprises: “Everyone expects Williams to be able to get back up – he analyzed – and I am happy to see a new opportunity granted to Alex Albon. We will then see what Alpine will do with Esteban Ocon, who is certainly not afraid of Fernando Alonso. There are really many variations, and we must not forget the performances of Pierre Gasly during the season, who was really brilliant ”. – the former Ferrari driver concluded.
