Mara Sangiorgio comments with bitterness on Ferrari’s performance in the most recent round of the 2023 Formula 1 campaign, the Spanish Grand Prix. In an article on the Sky Sport F1 website, the Italian journalist and F1 pit reporter highlights the discrepancy between the high expectations for the updates on the Maranello team’s car and the actual result. The disappointment is not just about the low number of points earned, but rather the capricious and incomprehensible behavior of the SF-23.
“There were high expectations, but it turned into a great defeat. The meager results in the Barcelona race standings speak for themselves, with Carlos Sainz finishing only fifth after starting from the front row and Charles Leclerc not even scoring points after starting from the pit lane due to changing half of car and above all without yet understanding the problems encountered in qualifying,” wrote the Sky correspondent.
“Before this global event, there were hopes that the large package of updates brought to change the face and substance of the Red car could be a new starting point, but the race at Montmelo told a different story. Despite the updates, the SF-23 remained an inconsistent car. A single-seater that doesn’t give the right and complete confidence to both drivers,” continued the journalist, echoing the comments of Charles Leclerc and Frederic Vasseur, who described the car as “inconsistent.”
As already emphasized by her colleagues during the live broadcast of the race, Mara Sangiorgio points out that this test was not satisfactory for Scuderia Ferrari, and soon there will come a time when a decision will be made whether to continue developing the 2023 car or, once again, focus on the next year:

“But the first real test of the new package fell below expectations because it was obvious to expect more, and instead, this Red car continues to struggle with a lack of downforce and more with itself than with competitors on the track. There seems to be little to recover from this project, but there is certainly the soldier Charles Leclerc to be saved, who seems increasingly bitter and alone. 2024 is just around the corner, and solid foundations different from these are needed.” – Mara Sangiorgio concluded.
