During the last few days, several important Italian media outlets reported that Scuderia Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto would pay the price for the issues encountered by the Maranello team during the 2022 Formula 1 season, which prevented Ferrari from challenging rivals Red Bull for the world championship titles.
The reports also indicated a clear favourite to replace Mattia Binotto, namely Alfa Romeo’s French team principal Frederic Vasseur.
However, Scuderia Ferrari rejected the report yesterday evening with an official statement:
“In relation to speculation in certain media regarding Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto’s position, Ferrari states that these rumours are totally without foundation.”
Mattia Binotto has been harshly criticized this year, after a Formula 1 campaign in which the Maranello team’s hopes of ending a lengthy title famine started encouragingly with two race wins from the first three rounds, only to falter in the second half of the season. However, FIA accredited Formula 1 journalist and analyst Giuliano Duchessa, who is well-known for being able to get information from Maranello sources, revealed today that there are many important people in Ferrari who do not want to see Mattia Binotto being removed from his position as team principal:

“In Maranello many prominent figures would not be at all happy with a change, considered almost shocking. Why? Because Mattia Binotto has always guaranteed an important ‘umbrella’ both in the factory and on the track to start working again. And this is just one of the arguments.” – Giuliano Duchessa wrote on his Twitter account.
“The result of this violent pressure on the team is only to have more disoriented men after a few years of continuity and stability. Take a step back on the volatility of Ferrari positions. We’ll see if there will be an intervention from the President” – the Formula 1 journalist added.
