Two public figures, the host of ‘La Zanzara,’ and a longtime face of TG1, have sparked controversy on social media.
Ferrario and Cruciani Stir Up a Social Media Storm
“As many of you already know, yesterday in Milan, we had an unpleasant incident. The most important thing is that we are all fine, and this will be remembered only as an unfortunate incident. Thanks to all the people who helped us yesterday, to the Milan Police for their very prompt response, and thanks for all your messages.” With these words shared through his social media channels, Carlos Sainz on Monday closed the chapter on what happened the previous evening (Sunday) when he was approached by three men who stole his watch as he exited the Armani hotel on Via della Spiga in Milan.
Carlos Sainz pursued the robbers, assisted by some passersby, and the intervention of the police finally put an end to the criminals’ escape. The Ferrari driver then went to the police station to file a report.
In describing what happened, Carlos Sainz undoubtedly toned down the incident, using words like “the most important thing is that we are all fine” and “unfortunate incident.” However, Tiziana Ferrario and Giuseppe Cruciani did not hold back. Tiziana Ferrario, a longtime face of TG1, believes that “you don’t wear a 500,000-euro watch on your wrist. It’s a matter of ethics, even for a Ferrari driver.”
Giuseppe Cruciani, the host of the radio program ‘La Zanzara’ on Radio24, was even more explicit in his criticism of the Ferrari driver. “I’m glad Carlos Sainz owns an expensive watch, but if you wear a 500,000-euro watch, what do you expect? It’s clear that there’s always someone who thinks of stealing it,” said Cruciani. Both statements sparked fierce criticism on social media, leading Ferrario to remove the original post she had published on this topic. The watch in question is a Richard Mille – one of Ferrari’s sponsors – created by the Swiss company in 2018 in collaboration with another athlete, tennis player Alexander Zverev. It is made with high-tech ultralight materials and weighs only 32 grams, including the strap, a feature that makes it the preferred model for many athletes. Its market value is around 300,000 euros.
