In Barcelona, on the penultimate day of testing, the first battle between Scuderia Ferrari and Mercedes took place in a in virtual shape, as Valtteri Bottas competed against Charles Leclerc in a racing simulation. According to leading German automobile magazine Auto motor und sport (AMuS), the Maranello team would have won the race by 5 seconds.

The Monegasque racing driver was consistently on the C2 tyres during his race simulation, which is an advantage against Valtteri Bottas (who started on the C3 tyres) because the high fuel weight is damaging the softer tyre more. The Finn therefore deliberately approached the matter carefully.

As reported by Auto motor und sport, Valtteri Bottas’ first flying lap was 1.22.8, while Charles Leclerc with the harder compound drove in a 1.22.7. At the beginning of the race distance the C2 tyres don’t have to be treated softly like the C3 tyres.
