The Sprint Race showed just how strong Mercedes has become in both energy recovery and energy management. Ferrari, however, also demonstrated encouraging race pace. Looking at the Sprint alone, the SF-26 appears capable of comfortably fighting as the second-fastest car this weekend—but, as always, there’s a catch.
Wind conditions have intensified at Silverstone, while increasing cloud cover has also changed the track conditions. As a result, the competitive order could shift once again. On paper, Ferrari should still be able to remain close to Mercedes, but the changing weather makes any prediction far from straightforward.
Following the Sprint, Charles Leclerc revealed that he has identified several changes that could improve the SF-26’s performance in both qualifying and the race. It won’t be long before we find out the impact of the setup decisions Ferrari has made on Leclerc’s car.
Before we begin our live coverage of qualifying, let’s take a quick look at the tyre compounds Pirelli has selected for the Silverstone weekend. Teams will have the Hard C1, Medium C2 and Soft C3 compounds available—the hardest tyre allocation in Pirelli’s current Formula 1 range.
