Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari, one year of waiting
During the Friday press conference in the final day of Formula 1 pre-season testing, which took place at the 5.412 km Bahrain International Circuit located in Sakhir, Bahrain, seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton was naturally asked about his future with Scuderia Ferrari starting with the 2025 F1 championship. His decision to join the Prancing Horse, officially announced one year in advance, surprised the entire F1 paddock, as well as fans of the Scuderia. However, the pairing of the most successful driver in history with the most victorious team of all time cannot help but be fascinating for the sport and for all parties involved.
The focus was first and foremost on understanding why Lewis had changed his mind. Last summer, the seven-time world champion had signed an extension with Mercedes until 2025. It seemed that his career was destined to end there.
“Yes, I had signed in the summer, and at that time, I saw my future with Mercedes,” commented Lewis Hamilton. “However, this opportunity presented itself at the end of the year, and I decided to seize it. I believe it was the most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make. I’ve had 26 years of support from Mercedes. It’s been an incredible journey that we’ve taken together. We’ve written pages of history in this sport. The milestones we’ve achieved together make me very proud. However, in the end, I believe I have to write my own story. I thought it was time to start a new chapter.” – he pointed out.

Lewis Hamilton did not deny admiring the achievements of Michael Schumacher at Scuderia Ferrari, explaining: “As a boy, I always chose him in the GP2 video game.” Unlike the German, who, despite having learned Italian over the years, never showcased it publicly during his time in Maranello, Lewis Hamilton hinted at wanting to try a different path: “In all these years, I haven’t managed to learn another language, but I’ll try. When I was a kid racing karts in Italy, I learned a few phrases.” And the seven-time Formula 1 world champion concluded: “The team hasn’t achieved great results since 2007, and that motivates me. I’m really excited about the choice I made” – stated Lewis Hamilton. If he were to be the driver to bring the title back to Maranello, he would further etch his name into Formula 1 history as a legend of this sport.
