F1 | Ferrari presentation at Maranello: Hamilton shares the emotions of his first run on track
Lewis Hamilton documented and shared all the emotions of his first time on track with the new Ferrari SF-26. On 23 January, Ferrari unveiled the SF-26 through official livery renderings released on social media. At the same time, the Scuderia took to the Fiorano circuit to collect the first kilometres with its new car.
Lewis Hamilton recounted every moment of the day in a behind-the-scenes video, offering fans a close look at a highly symbolic debut in Ferrari red.
Through a video published on his own social media channels, the seven-time world champion personally described the emotions of his first laps at Fiorano in the SF-26, experiencing a day filled with meaning and history.
All the emotions inside the garage
“We’re here at Fiorano and we’re literally about to launch the car this morning,” Hamilton says as he walks into the garage. “The car has just been put together by the engineers, so let me take you inside.”
It is a journey into the heart of Ferrari, passing through what he describes as “the iconic garage, the one that’s right on the track and that you see in photos and videos,” as the driver recalls historic images and the enduring presence of Enzo Ferrari at the Emilia-Romagna circuit.
The most intense moment comes after climbing into the car and completing the few laps permitted during the shakedown. “It never gets old: when they fire up the car for the first time, you feel the vibrations going through your back and your ribs,” Hamilton explains.
The emotion is pure and amplified by the ritual gestures inside the garage. “When they take the tyre blankets off and you see all that coordination… it’s so emotional that I even struggle to explain it,” he adds.
The warmth of the waiting fans
As he heads out on track, Lewis Hamilton highlights the unique atmosphere of Fiorano. “You go towards Turn 1 and on the straight you see the crowd. You feel the energy of the fans, and you feel that energy like it’s day one,” he says.
It is an experience that, as Hamilton himself admits, he has never felt with the same intensity elsewhere in his career.
Being the first to drive the new Ferrari is a privilege that carries real weight. “Seeing the car run for the first time and being the first one to drive it is something I don’t take for granted,” he explains.
From the very first metres on track, the sensations are already clear. “From the out lap you immediately feel certain things: the steering, the movement of the rear, the brakes. You take it one step at a time,” Hamilton says.
This is how Lewis Hamilton described the emotions of stepping into the new Ferrari single-seater for the first time and driving at Fiorano in front of the passionate Ferrari fans.
