With the championship winding down, 2025 is drawing nearer, along with the date of Lewis Hamilton’s debut in an F1 Ferrari. Where and when will the first day of #44 driving a Prancing Horse car take place? Team Principal Fred Vasseur provides the details.
As the F1 season comes to a close, it’s time for a brief rest—aside from tests—before turning the page and focusing on 2025. The upcoming year is full of expectations and curiosity, partly due to the arrival of Lewis Hamilton under Fred Vasseur’s guidance at Ferrari.
The British champion will transition from Mercedes silver to Ferrari red, but the switch won’t happen immediately after the Abu Dhabi GP. In recent weeks, there was speculation about Sir Lewis driving a Ferrari during post-season tests, but that won’t be the case. Mercedes has scheduled some final promotional commitments with Petronas for the seven-time world champion on the day of the Emirati tests.
Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari debut won’t take place in Abu Dhabi. Fans will need to wait until 2025, but Frederic Vasseur expressed no concerns when speaking to *Autosport*: “I don’t think he needs too many hours to adapt. He has the experience to be quick right away, or at least very soon.”
Lewis Hamilton: First time at Fiorano with the F1-75?
With Abu Dhabi ruled out, Lewis is expected to have his first day in red at Fiorano at the start of 2025, driving the Ferrari F1-75.
The TPC (Test of Previous Cars) regulations, which allow teams to use 2022 cars, come to Ferrari’s aid. “We will do one or two days of TPC, as well as the tests in Bahrain—that will be enough,” Fred Vasseur explained, revealing part of Ferrari’s plan to welcome the seven-time Formula 1 world champion.
