Everything went well. A celebration of sport held on a Wednesday with dreadful weather. For three days, Maranello became the epicenter of Ferrari passion. On Monday, fans hoped to catch a glimpse of Lewis Hamilton entering the Ferrari Racing Division headquarters, while yesterday saw the crowd of those who didn’t want to miss the English champion’s first laps in a Ferrari.
Two thousand people pressed against the fences of the Fiorano track, in the few observation points available to onlookers around the Fiorano circuit. This estimate comes from law enforcement, who ensured that Hamilton’s debut took place without any incidents. A “full house” was recorded, greater than for other world champions who had joined Ferrari in the past, such as Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, and Sebastian Vettel.
Mayor Luigi Zironi organized a security service that involved not only Maranello’s (few) municipal police but also their colleagues from Fiorano and neighboring towns, as well as the police, carabinieri, safety volunteers, and Ferrari personnel.
In short, a team was activated that managed the event’s impact perfectly: “Even last night, the entrance to the Ferrari Racing Division was guarded by Ferrari fans,” Zironi explained. “It was a beautiful, very intense day, marked by a composed and joyful passion despite the bad weather and cold. I saw many foreigners, a lot of young boys and girls. Of course, traffic, especially near the bridge, suffered, but it was a… positive gathering.” Even passing motorists couldn’t resist taking a peek at what was happening on the track.
Imagine the excitement caused by a truck driving over the overpass, painted with Lewis Hamilton on both sides: the roar of the truck’s horn sparked cheers from the fans, and despite the traffic, the truck driver couldn’t resist making a second pass. Everyone became a protagonist in their own way, some with flags and banners, others with their own means of transport…
