Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are set for a thriller season, followed by the Brit’s retirement from F1 – the movie imagined by Tom Coronel. The idea of a British comeback against the Dutchman, following their 2021 duel, sparks the imagination of Ferrari fans. While it’s far too early to predict such an ending, it’s undeniable that the Maranello duo is the most psychologically prepared for a battle against the now four-time world champion.
The 2021 season is etched in the collective memory of Formula 1 fans. A season fought down to the final lap of the final race after months of duels, edge-of-the-limit battles, and controversies. It was, in fact, with one last controversy in Abu Dhabi that Max Verstappen secured his first world title. Could it be time for a rematch for Lewis Hamilton?
Tom Coronel’s dream thriller
In an interview with RacingNews365, Tom Coronel shared what would be his film for the 2025 Formula 1 season: “If I were Steven Spielberg, because that’s how I feel, then I think this is the moment when he should be able to [win his eighth title]. With the red suit, in his first year, he wins his eighth championship, and then it’s over. Then he can do other things in life.”
“Wanting to make a thriller, I’d say this: the final race between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, in a red Ferrari… But then Hamilton also has to have the guts to say: ‘I’ve done what I wanted to do. I drove for Ferrari, and I’m world champion again. Now I’ll start a different life and leave motorsport behind.’ And his career ends with a success.”
Of course, Lewis Hamilton’s contract extends well beyond 2025. Most likely, we’ll see him on the grid with Ferrari in 2026 and 2027 as well. Yet, this cinematic fantasy carries a romantic touch: a legendary ending that would truly deserve a film.
