The Prancing Horse driver is under investigation for an incident that occurred during Free Practice 2 of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Ferrari representatives and Lewis Hamilton himself will have to appear before the FIA stewards. Is the Briton facing a penalty in Jeddah?
As night falls over Jeddah, McLaren remains on top. The second Friday session ended with an incident at the final corner involving Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda. The Japanese driver, born in 2000, put his car into the wall after an error while taking the corner before the main straight.
Moreover, during Saudi FP2, Ferrari attempted to confirm the promising early signs from FP1. After several aborted attempts, Charles Leclerc recorded the fourth-best time, nearly half a second behind the McLaren cars of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Further back was Lewis Hamilton, on the edge of the Top 10, still trailing his Monegasque teammate, who appeared much more at ease.
Impeding Lewis Hamilton: Is Ferrari at risk of a penalty in Jeddah?
For the 1985-born Briton, the second free practice session didn’t go particularly well. Adding to Lewis Hamilton’s frustrations is an FIA investigation that could put Ferrari at risk of a penalty in Jeddah.
Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari representatives must appear before the FIA stewards at 21:15 local time (20:15 Italian time). Car #44 of the Scuderia allegedly impeded Alexander Albon’s Williams during the second free practice session at the Jeddah circuit. Under investigation for impeding, is Sir Lewis really at risk of a grid penalty in Saudi Arabia?
Considering past incidents, it seems unlikely that the panel of stewards will impose a grid penalty on the Briton. The most probable sanction, as is standard in such cases, appears to be an official warning.
