Considering the results of both Mercedes and Scuderia Ferrari in this early part of the 2024 Formula 1 season, it’s conceivable to think that Lewis Hamilton is eager to pack his bags for Maranello, where a brand new (perhaps the last) Formula 1 adventure dressed in red awaits him. However, before thinking about 2025, there will still be several months of coexistence that the Englishman and Mercedes will have to face, hoping that the updates on the W15 can make the upcoming Grand Prix less bitter.
Will Toto Wolff grant Lewis Hamilton an early seat fitting?
Among the various topics addressed at the end of the Suzuka Grand Prix, the seven-time world champion also responded to a question about the timing of the seat fitting with Ferrari, although the Englishman admitted he would first need to discuss it with Toto Wolff to receive approval.
As reported by Motorsport-Total, Lewis Hamilton commented: “I think I’ll start with a conversation with Toto, because I don’t know how to behave. I don’t think I’ve been with Mercedes until December 2012 (when he left McLaren after six seasons), when the first seat fitting was done after the season. I don’t know how I’ll do it this time.” – he pointed out.
Despite the enthusiasm for the Ferrari adventure that awaits him, Lewis Hamilton reiterated his intention to complete the last season with the Silver Arrows in the best possible way: “Right now, I want to finish on a high. All my energies are focused on this. Of course, I’m looking to the future, but at the moment, we’re in a difficult situation and that’s my challenge. That’s where all my energies are focused: on figuring out how we can get back to the top.” – the seven-time Formula 1 world champion added.
“How can I work with the guys? Can I do better debriefs? Can I give better instructions? I am first and foremost a competitive driver, so I want to win. Thinking about next year doesn’t help me in this sense.” – he continued.
Returning to the top, at least for now, won’t be an easy task for the Brackley outfit. Both George Russell and Lewis Hamilton have, in fact, trailed almost 50 seconds behind the winner Max Verstappen, and nearly 30 behind the first non-Red Bull driver, Carlos Sainz.
The driver and constructor standings are also difficult to watch for Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton in ninth place with only ten points scored, while Mercedes finds itself fourth, already far behind the leading duo of Red Bull and Ferrari.
