At the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season, Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes will part ways, with the British driver bidding farewell to the Silver Arrows after eleven years and six of his seven career world titles. The news of Lewis’s move to Scuderia Ferrari stunned everyone on February 1, and very few were aware of this move.
One of them is Fabio Quartararo, the MotoGP world champion in 2021, who, in an interview with motorsport.com, revealed that he was informed by Piero Ferrari himself during a visit to Maranello.
“It was strange because I was visiting Maranello a couple of days before the announcement, and Piero Ferrari suggested it to me. But at that moment, I didn’t know how to interpret it; I didn’t understand it. I didn’t fall for it until it became official.” – he pointed out.
Once the news leaked, both Ferrari and Mercedes were forced to confirm the deal a few hours later, with Fabio Quartararo struggling to imagine Lewis Hamilton in red: “I always remember Lewis at Mercedes. I don’t even remember his time at McLaren. It will be strange to see him in red.” – he admitted.
Lewis Hamilton had already encountered a Yamaha rider a few years ago. In 2019, thanks to Monster, a long-time sponsor of both Mercedes and the Japanese team, the British driver had the opportunity to test Valentino Rossi‘s Yamaha M1 at the Valencia circuit. The 46 had the privilege of putting the glorious Mercedes W10, the title-winning car with Lewis Hamilton that year, on the track.
El Diablo also had the opportunity to spend a day with the seven-time world champion. He was also promised a test in one of the Formula 1 Mercedes cars: “Regarding Mercedes, it’s something I’m working on; it’s not something planned yet,” the Frenchman stated in the summer of 2022.

“Of course, it’s something I would like to try. I’ve been to the simulator. I’ve been in the car, but I’ve never had the chance to drive it. I had a really enjoyable day with Lewis, but we didn’t talk about races. We just had fun on the surf and jet ski. It was a nice day.” – Fabio Quartararo concluded.
