The Miami GP was a real nightmare for Fred Vasseur’s Ferrari, with the radio communications from Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc perfectly reflecting the situation inside the Italian team. Both Ferrari drivers now seem unable to hide their dissatisfaction with a scenario that was far from expected at the start of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
After narrowly missing the Constructors’ title in 2024, fans were hoping to begin the new season riding the momentum of the previous year. This explains the huge enthusiasm surrounding pre-season testing and the months that led to Lewis Hamilton’s arrival in Maranello.
The arrival of the seven-time world champion appeared to be the missing piece in the puzzle assembled by Fred Vasseur. Instead, the track has exposed all the shortcomings of the SF-25, which—unless it receives significant updates—doesn’t appear capable of fighting for the title. Miami was seen by many as one of the lowest points in recent years.
Lewis Hamilton reveals a behind-the-scenes moment with Fred Vasseur
In light of the controversy sparked by his team radio exchange with the pit wall, Lewis Hamilton clarified what happened: “I still have the hunger to win; I feel it inside me. And I’ll never apologize for being a fighter who wants to win. I know that everyone within the team shares the same goal. I have no problem with them or with Charles. We simply could have done better in some situations. But I repeat, there was no anger toward the team. I was just asking for a quick decision. ‘You’re sitting in a chair with all the data in front of you. Make a decision.’ That was the meaning of my words. I don’t think I disrespected anyone. I just want to win and was trying to transmit that to the team,” Lewis Hamilton said.
The seven-time world champion also shared a behind-the-scenes story about Fred Vasseur: “Fred came to see me before speaking to the media. But I put a hand on his shoulder and told him to relax. I could’ve said much worse over the radio, as I’ve done in the past. People need to understand that we’re under incredible pressure while driving. That’s why sometimes we sound harsh on the radio,” the Briton added.
