Lewis Hamilton showed his class after Monaco Grand Prix qualifying by being one of the first drivers to congratulate Andrea Kimi Antonelli on a memorable pole position in Monte Carlo.
The young Mercedes driver produced one of the standout laps of the 2026 Formula 1 season to secure his first pole at Monaco, beating Max Verstappen in a tense final Q3 battle. For Andrea Kimi Antonelli, it was a landmark moment at one of the most prestigious circuits on the calendar.
Hamilton, who qualified third for Ferrari, immediately went over to congratulate the Italian driver after the session. The moment quickly caught the attention of fans, underlining the respect between two drivers at very different stages of their Formula 1 careers.
For the British driver, Monaco qualifying was also a strong result, as the seven-time World Champion secured a place on the second row ahead of Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc. But despite his own performance, the Briton still took time to recognise Kimi Antonelli’s achievement.
Antonelli’s pole position is another major statement in what has already become a remarkable campaign. Delivering such a lap around Monaco requires total confidence, precision and composure, especially with the barriers so close and the margins at the front so tight.
The gesture from Lewis Hamilton added a sporting and emotional touch to the end of qualifying, with the Ferrari driver acknowledging a special moment for one of Formula 1’s brightest young talents.
