The British driver claims his first Ferrari podium in China
Hamilton riding the momentum
Lewis Hamilton had already shown strong signs of competitiveness in Australia, delivering performances closely aligned with his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc. In China, a track he loves, the seven-time world champion finally broke the long-standing curse of achieving his first podium as a Ferrari driver, marking a historic moment for both himself and the Maranello team.
Now, the focus inevitably shifts to his first win with Ferrari. When asked about this milestone in a press conference, Lewis Hamilton was optimistic: “I definitely feel I can say that this goal is closer than ever. Last year, it couldn’t have felt further away,” stated Lewis Hamilton confidently.
“I think, at this moment, however, Mercedes still have a bit more than us – added the seven-time world champion – in qualifying here in China, we managed to stay fairly close, but in the race they still have almost half a second per lap advantage. It’s a huge gap to close when you consider power, aerodynamics, and efficiency. Nevertheless, I have complete faith in all the guys working at Maranello, and I don’t think it’s an impossible step. We need a super upgrade.”
Ferrari plans major updates for Miami
Ferrari Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur revealed that the Scuderia intends to bring “one and a half packages” of upgrades to the Miami Grand Prix, aiming to further reduce the gap and strengthen their challenge against Mercedes on the track.
The “Hamilton-Ferrari” era is therefore beginning to yield tangible results. With the 2026 championship still in its early stages, a successful upgrade in Miami could turn the fight for the top step into a genuine three-way battle. For the British driver, the dream of winning in red is no longer a distant fantasy, but a target that is, in his own words, closer than ever.
