A new record at Monza for Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari
During a rather uneventful Italian Grand Prix for Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton still managed to secure a new record at Monza.
At a Grand Prix that set its own record for spectator attendance, Ferrari could not deliver a victory for its passionate Tifosi. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished in fourth and sixth place respectively. Nevertheless, the affection of the Ferrari fans towards the Scuderia’s drivers – and not only them – was impossible to miss throughout the weekend.
The images of the main straight completely packed during the podium celebrations quickly spread across social media, as did the videos of chants dedicated to Max Verstappen. The Dutchman, who had often been booed in the past at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, was this time loudly applauded after his victory. Many Ferrari supporters expressed admiration for a driver they would like to see one day in red when Lewis Hamilton decides to bid farewell to Formula 1.
Lewis Hamilton sets a new record
Meanwhile, the seven-time world champion continues to collect record after record. During the Italian Grand Prix, the number 44 Ferrari car registered the highest top speed of the entire season. At the end of the long main straight, the SF-25 reached an astonishing 365 km/h. Before Sunday, the fastest speed of the season had been recorded at Spa-Francorchamps, where a car hit 356 km/h.
Furthermore, Lewis Hamilton’s achievement also represents the highest speed ever reached at Monza by a ground-effect Formula 1 car, marking yet another milestone in his extraordinary career.
