Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton has shared his expectations ahead of the 2026 Belgian Grand Prix, with Spa-Francorchamps set to present one of the biggest energy management challenges of the season.
As previously highlighted, the 2026 Formula 1 cars are expected to be particularly energy-hungry around the iconic Belgian circuit. To help address this, the FIA has designated five separate sections of the lap where drivers will be able to open the active aerodynamic wings, allowing them to recover and deploy energy more effectively.
Silverstone posed similar concerns from an energy management perspective. However, the British Grand Prix ultimately produced an entertaining weekend, with several drivers admitting that the real-world situation was better than they had initially anticipated.
Ferrari exceeded expectations by claiming Sprint pole position with Lewis Hamilton before Charles Leclerc went on to secure victory in the Grand Prix. The Monegasque’s triumph was made easier by the technical issue that struck Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who had been rapidly closing the gap in the closing stages of the race while running on significantly fresher tyres.
Looking ahead to Spa-Francorchamps, Lewis Hamilton stressed that regardless of how competitive the Ferrari SF-26 proves to be, he must raise his own performance after an underwhelming home race at Silverstone.
“Spa will feature long straights, but ultimately I’ll need to do a better job than I did this weekend. We have to keep making changes and continue pushing, while also bringing more upgrades,” Lewis Hamilton said.
