Lewis Hamilton has promised Ferrari supporters that he will return stronger after the Formula 1 summer break, backing himself and the team to produce a more competitive second half of the 2026 season. The seven-time world champion wants to move beyond the mistakes, distractions and penalties that have affected his recent Grands Prix.
A difficult Hungarian Grand Prix brought Lewis Hamilton only 10 points despite the victory expectations surrounding Ferrari before the weekend. The outcome left the British driver 50 points behind championship leader Kimi Antonelli at the end of the first half of the campaign.
Lewis Hamilton takes encouragement from Ferrari’s potential
Although the Hungaroring weekend was shaped by unfavourable incidents, penalties and strategic decisions, Lewis Hamilton still sees positive signs in Ferrari’s performance during the opening half of the season. The potential demonstrated by the car gives the British driver confidence that the Scuderia has an important foundation on which to build during the remaining races.
Ferrari had arrived in Hungary with realistic hopes of competing at the front, but its promising weekend ultimately became a painful missed opportunity for Lewis Hamilton. After putting that result behind him, the Ferrari driver intends to concentrate on eliminating the errors that have compromised his most recent appearances.
“I know the guys are working flat out to bring upgrades. We are bringing developments almost every weekend. And we keep pushing,” Lewis Hamilton said following the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The commitment to continuous development remains a source of encouragement for the seven-time world champion. Ferrari has continued introducing updates as it attempts to improve its performance and maintain its championship ambitions through the second half of the campaign.
Lewis Hamilton promises a stronger second half of 2026
“I think the second half of the season will be even stronger from us, and it is usually the best period for me as well,” Lewis Hamilton explained. “I will use this break to recharge and try to come back stronger, fitter and more mentally prepared.”
The summer break will therefore provide Lewis Hamilton with a valuable opportunity to recover both physically and mentally. That reset appears particularly important following a challenging run in which a five-second penalty in Hungary added to the frustration surrounding Ferrari’s result.
Lewis Hamilton now needs a strong response to restore momentum to his championship challenge and lift the supporters he believes he has disappointed over the past month. His opportunity to begin that recovery will arrive when Formula 1 resumes with the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
